According to Dr. Harrison, the watercolor "is based on Palmer's sketches in Italy, in particular the monastery of La Vocatella near Corpo di Cava. Two similar compositions include the monastery, one listed in Lister's catalogue raisonné as no. 311, and another sold at Christie's 10 July 2012, lot 147.
