A large group of 101 small Kalighat paintings on card, mostly depicting figures and scenes from Hindu mythology Calcutta, late 19th/early 20th Century watercolour with some silver highlights on card, all with Bengali identifying inscriptions in black ink, loose each 140 x 90 mm. and slightly smaller(101) Footnotes: Provenance Private UK collection: formerly in the possession of the seller's grandmother. Three letters offered with the paintings show that they were sold in 1959 privately for £7. 10 shillings. This large group, in unusually small, postcard-size format, mostly comprises the familiar Kalighat depictions of Hindu deities and mythological figures.
