Hugó Scheiber, Hungarian 1873-1950- Road to the Village; gouache, signed lower right, 59 x 41cm (ARR) Provenance: Private Collection, London Note: During the 1890s, in Budapest, Scheiber studied at the Commercial Art School. The following years Scheiber experimented with German expressionist and Italian Futurism, clashing with the status quo in conservative Hungry at the time. This led him to move to Vienna in 1921. The same year Max Hevesi would exhibit Schreiber's work alongside artists such as Kádár at the Salon in Vienna. This bought Scheiber to the attention of Herwarth Walden, who later exhibited Schieber at his Sturm Gallery in Berlin, alongside Franz Marc, Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Marc Chagall and Oskar Kokoschka. Please refer to department for condition report in a gilded moulding frame, glazed, late 20th century.
