Norman Meredith, British 1909-2005- The Barn Dance; watercolour, signed, inscribed, titled and dated 1985, 41.5x53.5cm (ARR) Provenance: with Chris Beetles Limited, London according to the label attached to the reverse of the frame Note: Norman Meredith was British painter and illustrator, born in Liverpool (1909 - 1985) England. He studied at the Liverpool College of Art. He subsequently won a scholarship to the Royal College of Art, where he studied painting under Sir William Rothenstein. He won a traveling scholarship and studied in Italy, France and Germany. Between 1947 and 1974 he lectured in Art at University College, Aberystwyth and gave visiting lectures at St Martins School of Art. Meredith has contributed numerous illustrations to a large number of magazines including Punch, Tatler, The Sketch and The Bystander. His career as a children's book illustrator began when Enid Blyton asked him to illustrate her stories at the end of World War II. Please refer to department for condition report
