A wonderful Near Eastern bronze axe head, c. 1200 - 800 BC, cast as one piece with cylindrical shaft-hole with four straight ribs at the back terminating in four long conical points. The upper and lower ribs form the top and bottom collars of the shaft-hole, the two central ribs continue onto the blade as raised decoration and the upper and lower edges of the blade are strengthened by thickening and the blade slopes slightly downward with flat cutting edge. Comes together with a custom display mounting. Axe approximately 7 1/2 in. x 3 1/2 in. Good condition with mild surface wear, encrustation.
