A large Swiss Neuchâtel verge suspension quarter striking repeater clock with wall bracket; Vernis Martin; Switzerland, 18th c. Second half.
Origin: Switzerland, late 18th century, dated 1786.
Dimensions: height of clock on bracket - 90 cm, clock itself - H67 x 33,7 x 13,5 cm, bracket - H25 x 35,5x 13,5 cm. Dial’s diameter – 24,5 cm.
Wooden case of rococo shape decorated with Vernis Martin in Chinoiserie style, gold flowers on black ground. The varnish is called in French Vernis Martin was created by the Martin brothers in 1730 as an imitation for Oriental lacquers. Clock comes with an original wall bracket decorated in same style.
Very good quality verge escapement quarter striking and repeating on demand movement with count wheel on the backplate and stamped 'A.L.R. / 1786'. White porcelain dial with Roman numerals. Blue colored steel hands. Dial's diameter - 24,5 cm.
Conditions report: movement in in need of overhaul. Round glass on door broken. Minor wear, scratches and damages to the case. Traces of restorations to the movement and case. Check pictures for details. Original pendulum. Winding key present.
