Mantel / table clock depicting cherubs playing dices Japy Freres & Cie Gilt bronze, Ormolu Mid 19th century.
Origin: France, c. 1850.
Rare gilt bronze clock dated to middle 19th century.
Good technical quality Parisian two train movement stamped on the backplate: JAPY FRERES & Cie / EXPOSITION / 1855 / GRANDE MED.[AILLE] / D'HONNEUR, what allows to precisely date the clock to be made between 1855 and 1865 as it was allowed to use the trophy from World's Exposition for 10 years only. Above the stamp number 83, below numbers indicating proportion of weight and length of pendulum - 9 / 2 (lower part of the movement).
Very good quality well casted and chiseled clock case made of gilt bronze in Louis XVI style, supported on two front legs and scrolls on sides. Depicting two cherubs playing dices, above the dial of white porcelain with blue Roman numerals for hours and black Arabic for minutes (each 5). In center partially worn retailer's name, possible to read ...A PARIS only. Above the dial rich decoration of flowers.
Conditions report: case in very good condition, traces of old repairs, few screws changed, minor damages and discolorations to the gold layer. Dial in good condition except of chips around winding holes. Movement not tested. Clock comes with pendulum.
