A rare Polish saber by J. Chruscicki, based on Russian M.1807/1819 cavalry officer’s sword. Poland under Russian Empire.
Origin: Poland under Russian Empire, early to middle 19th century.
An extremely rare Polish cavalry officer’s sword made in early to middle 19th century.
Curved blade with one wide fuller both sides, not signed, ricasso decorated with floral sprays and sprigs, one with a torch, next to the hilt engraved cartouche with parallel stripes.
Closed brass hilt, made after Russian regulation light cavalry officer’s sword model 1807/1819, shorter arm of cross guard finished with a flattened ball and bent towards the blade, longer bents up, joins two other branches of the guard and finishes in the pommel. Wooden grip covered with black leather. Stamped on back guard’s branch: J. Chruścicki in rectangle.
Scabbard made of iron, with two suspension rings.
Dimensions: total length in scabbard – 101,4 cm, without – 97,1 cm, blade's length – 84,3 cm, blade's width – 33,3 mm, blade’s thickness – 10 mm, scabbard’s length – 88,5 cm.
Condition report: blade with some darker places, rather patina than corrosion. Hilt with natural patina, one branch of the guard broken. Leather on grip with wear due to age and use. Scabbard in very good condition, with light surface corrosion, without deep pitting. Some dents and scratches visible.
