A knife with single-edged iron blade; octagonal-section handle formed as a facetted column featuring punched chevron motif, tapering towards the terminal and terminating in an eagle head finial; the eagle's beak is hooked and substantial; a series of lightly-hatched scallop shapes create a detailed feathery texture on its head and neck; the eagle's small, alert eyes look straight ahead in the direction of the knife blade. 112 grams, 22.5cm (9"). Property of a London gentleman; acquired on the UK art market since 2011; previously in English collections since before 2000.
