水經注為中國古代最全面系統的地理學著作，惜宋本僅存殘本。今存最早刻本為嘉靖黃省曾刻本，然黃省曾刻本中原文與注釋間有混淆。萬曆間，朱謀瑋以吳琯校刻本《水經注》為底本，並參校黃省曾校刻本及當時尚流傳的鈔宋本和其他版本，兼采謝兆申等人的校勘按語，重新箋注校訂。其不擅改舊籍之校勘理念，在當時尚屬罕見，是水經注箋釋最好的版本之一。清末王國維先生得宋殘本重新校勘研究水經注，即以此版本為底本重新校訂，批跋。
