是书版心下镌“希贵堂”三字，中计字数，字体阔大，行格疏朗。系后人在萧统《昭明文选》之基础上进行的增广续收之作，所收作品仅六朝、唐、明诸朝，不录五代、宋、元之作；又推崇当朝文翰，所收明代诗文比重甚大。是明代“选学”中唯一被清人列入禁书作品，故历代书目对此收录甚少。汤绍祖，又名汤绍中，字公孟，公益，嘉兴海盐人。通古文词，长而化读，闻有异书，必百计购求，故藏帙独富，好骈俪之文。惜存二十九卷
