A group of Japanese paintings. The first is watercolor and ink on paper and depicts a pair of women and includes 2 inscriptions and 2 seals; it is mounted on silk backing with dowels. The second is a woodblock print depicting a Hindu musician; it is mounted on silk backing with dowels. The third is watercolor and ink on silk depicting a lady it includes an inscription and 1 seal; it is mounted on silk backing with wooden dowels. The last is ink on silk and depicts a monk and includes 2 inscriptions and 1 seal; it is mounted on silk backing with metal dowels and comes with a box. Dimensions: 37 1/2 inches tall X 14 1/2 inches wide; 95.3 cm tall X 36.8 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: The first painting has creasing; foxing and repairs. The third painting has some foxing and creasing. The last painting has light foxing. Provenance: From a collector in Bethesda, Maryland, by descent from his father, who lived overseas in China (Shanghai, Hong Kong, and Taipei) for 25 years and served as an executive for Air America, associated with the Flying Tigers and Civil Air Transport (CAT). He acquired much of his collection during this period and continued collecting from Sotheby's Park Bernet after 1972 when he returned to the United States. This scroll includes lot tags from both C. G. Sloan and Co, Inc. and Sotheby's Parke Bernet.
