Louis Aimé Japy, French 1840-1916; L'etang de Lapra en Septembre, St. Bonnet-Les-Oulles; oil on canvas, signed lower right; and inscribed with the title on a plate on the reverse, 50.8x66 cm (ARR) Provenance: Christie's, London, 27 September 2012, lot 89, where purchased by the present owner. Note: Japy was a pupil of Camille Corot and Francois-Louis Français. Most of his landscapes such as this were set in the French region of Jura. Please refer to department for condition report The piece is in a decorative wooden gilded frame. There is some rubbing on the edges of the canvas caused by the frame, but only noticeable on close inspection. Under UV there is evident re-touching over the craqueleur in the sky. It appears there was a circular crack in the upper left sky area. Furthermore there is some re-touching in other areas. In the upper area of the canvas in the sky are marks on the surface These appear to be superficial and could be cleaned off. Overall in good condition
