18th century English School oil on canvas, Portrait of John Gore, 1st Baron Annaly, Lord Chief Justice of the King's Bench for Ireland and Speaker of the Irish House of Lords, inscribed 'John Gore, first Lord Annaly, obn.1783' 46.5 x 36.5in. CONDITION: Oil on canvas relined 20 - 30 years ago or **** and now showing signs of starting to sag, a fine craquelure running through the paint which is starting to lift a little in the darker areas although no losses as such, title inscribed top left corner, housed in a 19th century gilt gesso frame which has suffered some losses, Christie's number verso 404VG.
