William Moore (1790-1851) - Portrait of a lady seated in a green chair wearing a black dress, lace bonnet decorated with flowers and holding a fan, a Church can be seen through a window nearby, also a companion portrait of a gentleman seated wearing a black coat and trousers holding a document in his right hand, one inscribed on the remains of an old label verso said to be Rachael wife of Henry Smith Esq of Gainsborough daughter of William Etherington of Gainsborough and dated the 6th October 1817, also inscribed Painted by Moore, the companion work also bearing a later inscription William Moore 1790-1851 portrait of Henry Smith of Gainsborough, oil on copper, each 12.5" x 10" (a pair)
