STANDING ACALA Bronze fire gilt Tibet , 15th century Dimensions: Height 19 cm by 12 cm Weight: 1268,1 grams The protector of the dharma is standing in wide stance with one knee bent and one leg straight on an elaborately decorated throne with several beaded rims and double reverse lotus. Underneath him lies the defeated body of Ganesha. He is swaying his sword in the air with the left hand, cutting through ignorance, while the other hand is forming the karana mudra to ward off evil and is also holding the end of a noose which is forming a loop in the air. A flowy scarf hangs from his shoulders. He is dressed in tiger skin pants and wears big circular ear pendents and a crown bearing a seated Buddha. The cloth hanging down between the legs increases the stability of the image. The bottom is hollow.
