NARASIMHA Bronze India , 15th century Dimensions: Height 4,5 cm Weight: 62,3 grams The man-lion is a fierce avatar of Vishnu, the torso and lower body usually in human shape and head of a lion, sometimes also claws instead of hands. He is seated on a rectangular throne with ornamental carvings. Vishnu's vehicle Garuda is kneeling in the centre of it, identifiable by his wings. Narasimha has four arms holding attributes linked to Vishnu. A consort is sitting on his right knee. Both are wearing jewellery and conical headdresses. The back of the statue is also created with much detail.
