MONK ON LOTUS THRONE Sandelwood gilt and painted Thailand, Ayutthaya 18th century Dimensions: Height 42 cm Weight: 2838,9 grams Figure of a monk seated with legs crossed, the right hand touching the earth while the other hand is placed in the lap holding a missing attribute. The monk is dressed in a simple robe. The round face is framed by elongated earlobes, the thin lips form a light smile, the eyes are downcast but attentive. The small curls on the head are decorated with gold colour. The flared throne has four layers and an ornamental drape decorates the centre. The monk is detachable from the throne.
