HEAD OF MALE DEITY Sandstone Khmer , Bayon , 12th to 13th century Dimensions: Height 25 cm without base Weight: 3563 grams with base A Bayon style sandstone head mounted on a wooden stand. The ears are elongated with a damaged part on the right ear. The eyes are closed and the nose is broad, the face with a wide mouth with full lips. A row of beads sets off the ushnisha from the hair tresses. The back of the head is flat. The Bayon temple was the centre of Mahayana Buddhist King Jayavarman VII's capital, Angkor Thom.
