A George IV mahogany and goncalo alves bureau bookcase, circa 1825, the profusely carved pediment incorporating scroll and acanthus motifs, above a pair of panelled doors opening to adjustable shelves, the fall front secretaire section opening to a leather inset writing surface and an arrangement of pigeon holes and a long divided drawer, the pair of panel cupboard doors opening to three sliding trays, flanked on either side by scrolling acanthus carved terminals, on tapering foliate carved feet, 240cm high, 123.5cm wide, 62.5cm deep Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches, abrasions consistent with age and use, Old chips, losses, and some replacements to veneers and mouldings, one section to the lower part of a flanking pilaster is detached but present and one part to the lower side of the base the same, they both have signs of old glue, The locks appear original, there is one key operating the top cupboard doors and another for the fall and the lower cupboard doors, these all appear original, The leather inset to the fall with scratches, indentations and scuffs to be expected from age and use, Some old splits and cracks, As can be seen in the additional online images the rear of the doors is unfinished - some of the panels have small holes in - perhaps these have been fabric lined before, The sliding elements all functioning at time of the report, the slide to the top of the fall needs to be all the way out for the fall to fit snuggly into the closed position.
