孔明碗为双层碗，底与碗心呈双层夹空，底中心镂孔与空腹相通。始于北宋龙泉窑，其碗胎体厚实，底孔较大。到了明代，则胎体较薄，底孔较小。宋元时孔明碗多为龙泉青釉瓷，明代另有青花、蓝釉、五彩等品种。传为皇室供奉祭祀所用，较为少见。
