舍利佛是释迦牟尼佛的大弟子，在佛的所有弟子中，智慧第一，他出生的时候，眼睛与舍利鸟的眼睛及其相似，梵汉并译则称舍利子，是最受佛陀信任的首席弟子，佛陀成道后第一次回到祖国罗卫城的时候，罗睺罗要出家，佛陀就叫他拜舍利佛为亲教师，受沙弥戒。
此像神情肃穆，面部刻画圆润饱满，身披袒右肩袈裟，右袖口下垂过膝，左手持法钵，脚踏椭圆形覆莲台座，莲瓣雕刻规整，上下缘饰以细密连珠纹，整体黄铜铸造，做工精致，是典型的十八世纪北京地区造像作品。
