该钱范长6.6厘米，宽6.7厘米，铜质，体为八边形，有边栏，边栏长短不一，相对两边长短相同，长边中部向里有阴阳间错、铆钉各一对，整条范模内有钱范四枚：正面两枚，背面两枚。面文为小篆悬针体“货泉”二字，方孔。每枚钱范有支槽相接，背面铸有“大吉宜”三字。据《汉书·王莽传》记载，地皇元年（公元20年），王莽第四次改革币制，废大小泉，改发行“货布”、“货泉”两种钱币。此钱范即是该时期的产物，对于研究王莽时期的货币制度变革，提供了珍贵的实物例证。钱范历来发现较少，且多为博物馆所藏，故此件钱范更显得弥足珍贵。
