拍品因瓶身如筒，与“统”谐音，暗合“一统江山”的意思，是明代崇祯青花瓷器的标准器。口部饰蕉叶，青花发色青翠，富有层次，胎体洁白细腻，白中微微泛青，釉面肥厚，滋润，器身满绘丙吉问牛图，画笔娴熟，功力深厚，细致写实，为难得的明末清初之佳作。
此罐器身通景所绘题材为“丙吉问牛”典故，源自《汉书·魏相丙吉传》：“丙吉为相，出郊，遇途人有殴死者，不问。遇有逐牛而喘者，问曰：牛行几里矣。或曰前后失问。吉曰：方今少阳用事，犹未太热，牛喘出舌，恐阴阳失序。三公调理阴阳，职当忧，故问之。殴死人者，自有京兆官治之，非宰相之当问也。”
