A set of four Agate snuff bottles made in the early 20th C. 1- An agate snuff bottle carved into the shape of a fish that appears to be jumping out of water, which forms the base of the bottle. The agate is off white and turns a darker yellow on the fishes small fins. This jar features a small green disc shaped lid. D: 1.3 by 2.2 in. (3.3 by 5.47 cm) Condition: in good condition 2- A small agate snuff bottle with a high relief of a horse breathing fire carved into the surface. The high relief is made of blue colored stone, the jar is made of yellowish agate. It has a lid carved from the same stone as the vessel, the lid has a triangular dome shape with a small sphere for a knob. D: 1.8 by 2.8 in ( 4.57 by 7.19 cm) Condition: Hairline fracture can be seen to the top of the vessel. The lid is separated into two parts, with part that is inserted into the jar stuck in the vessel and the agate decorative top sitting on top of the rim (no longer securely attached). 3- Small agate snuff bottle with a high relief design of two butterflies and a cat, carved into the front of the vessel. The high relief is made of dark yellow and brown agate. The lid is made of a cork foot, metal base and a coral top which is held in place by the metal. D: 1.3 by 2.5 in (3.22 by 6.34 cm) Condition: in good condition only the cork base of the lid has broken off and been lodged into the neck of the bottle. 4- Carved from red streaked off white agate, this small rectangular snuff bottle features a vessel whose exterior features a carved decoration. Done in high relief this decoration features a bird that stands above water and several large flowers. Two of these flowers can be seen on the top of the bottle, enhancing it’s rectangular shape. It’s lid is made of the same agate and features the same flower motif. D: 2 by 2.7 in (5 by 6.88 cm) Condition: in good condition only the lid has broken into two parts, with it’s cork base broken and lodged inside the neck of the jar. .
