Bouddha Thailande, période Mon Dvaravati, circa 8ème siècle Alliage de cuivre, hauteur : 24,8 cm Provenance : Collection Japonaise années 1990 Spink and Son Ltd, London, années 1990. Buddha Thailand, Mon Dvaravati period, circa 8th century Copper alloy. Height : 24,8 cm The Buddha has a broad face, full lips, elongated eyes with faint arching brows converge to a short broad nose. His hair is worked in small bump-like knots over his domed ushnisha and his distended earlobes recall his regal life before enlightenment. With both hands making the gesture of argumentation, the Buddha is standing dressed with a sanghati covering both shoulders and perfectly fitting the shape of the body. This garment is directly inspired by the Indian Gupta art of the 5-6th centuries. A very fine example of the beginnings of Buddhist statuary in Southeast Asia. Provenance : Japanese collection 1990s Spink and Son Ltd, London, 1990s
