Octagonal equinoctial sundial in brass finely chiselled with acanthus leaf motifs, wave friezes and stylised shells on an amati background. The beautifully engraved compass is recessed in the centre of the plate, the ring-shaped hour dial is adjustable in inclination according to the latitude of the observation site, the degree of latitude is given by a graduated folding bow, the gnomon is articulated. On the back of the compass are engraved some latitudes of European cities. Germany, 17th century. Diam. 5.6 cm.
