19th century The first of boxwood, in the form of three nasubi (eggplants) of differing size, each curled over forming a compact composition, signed with a kao, 4cm (1 9/16in); the second a porcelain study of a cicada on a celadon-glazed pine cone, unsigned, 4.3cm (1 11/16in); the third of ironwood, ebony, and walnut depicting reishi fungus and a ball carved with shishi in landscape on one side and a ho-o (phoenix) in flight on a base, unsigned, 3.7cm (1 7/16in); the fourth of bamboo, lacquered and metal-inlaid with a branch of flowering prunus, a seal carved beneath, unsigned, 3.5cm (1 3/8in).
