A Chinese partially white glazed amphora dating from the Tang dynasty. It has double dragon handles. Dimensions: 15 inches tall X 7 inches wide; 38.1 cm tall X 17.78 cm wide. All measurements are approximate. Condition: Numerous areas of repair. Provenance: From Mrs. Williams in Mills Valley, California; the piece is a family heirloom. A jar dating from the Tang dynasty with dragon-headed handles can be found in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, accession number 38.56.7 (fig. 1). A similar jar from the early Tang dynasty is in the collection of Freer Gallery of Art, accession number F1943.4. Another such jar can be found in the Palace Museum, Beijing (fig.2).
