Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528), successor. German Master of the 16th century, ''Entombment of Christ'', multi-figured scene with mourners and a central figure with a turban and red cloak in front of a forest landscape. On the edge of the sarcophagus dated 1507, on the tree a tablet with an indistinct monogram, and to the left of it a putto with a text cartouche that quotes the 1st letter to the Corinthians - chapter 15 - verse 22: ''et sicut in Adam omnes moriuntur ita et in Christo omnes vivificabuntur ''(For just as they all die in Adam, so in Christ they will all be made alive). There is a copper engraving with exactly this motif, which bears the Dürer monogram and was believed to be a work by Dürer until the 19th century, but is now a successor. It is unclear whether the engraving was made after the painting or vice versa. Oil on panel, two closed vertical breaks, one old bracket missing, retouched, stained, verso hand-written previous owner label ''Cl. V. Chelius'', 49.5 x 38 cm, framed. 60 x 49 cm
