Martin Benka (1888-1971), Slovak expressionist artist, is considered to be one of the founders of modern Slovak painting. Studied in HodonÃn and Prague, where he worked as a freelance artist from 1913 to 1939. In 1939 he returned to Slovakia and ran an art school in Martin.
