This sale presents a selection of 120 objects (LOT#55 to LOT#130) from the collection of Mr. Jacques Bardac and his family. Mr. Jacques Bardac (French) served as the representative of Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank in Peiping, China in 1920. He has acted as the financial agent of French government in China during the republican period. Mr. Jacques Bardac maintained close contact with people from all walks of life in China. He made friends with many French sinologists and related friends through business contacts and with their assistance, he owned a batch of Chinese ancient artworks of various types, including porcelain, Buddha statues and so on. Mr. Jacques Bardac chose to leave China in 1941, however was unable to return home because of the war. Therefore, he went to the United States at the invitation of his best friend. Some of the items at this sale are Mr. Jacques Bardac’s collection from his time in the United States. Under the influence of Mr. Jacques Bardac, his descendants also developed a passion for Chinese art, and a fine collection of Chinese artworks has been preserved to this day.
