Exquisite statue of a female dancer striking a pose in 1920s costumed garb. Sculpture is cast in bronze and polychromed, with three-tiered variegated marble base, signed: D.H. Chiparus, likely a 1960s version. Demetre Haralamb Chiparus was a Romanian sculptor who lived and worked in Paris. He was one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco era. Some of his most exciting works are dancers taken from the Russian Ballet, French theatre, and early motion pictures. Dancers were captured in movement, dressed in high Art Deco style and long and lean in appearance. Demetre Chiparus worked primarily with the Etling Foundry in Paris. 30.5 x 10 x 24 in.
