One collector's seal - Provenance: Former old European private collection, assembled prior 1990 - Private property Frankfurt - Leng Mei (active 1703-1717) was a noted court painter of the Kangxi period (1662-1722) and a pupil of the court painter Jiao Bingzhen (active ca. 1680-1720). He specialized in figure painting and especially did copies of old masterworks. This painting follows the famous Luohan paintings of the monk painter Guanxiu (832-912) of the Tang dynasty
