简介：释星云，江苏扬州（江都）人，俗名李国深，其信徒常称之为星云大师。十二岁于南京栖霞寺礼志开上人出家。为临济宗第48代传人。1945年入栖霞律学院修学佛法。1949年春，组织僧侣救护队来台湾。1967年创建佛光山，并出任佛光山寺第一、二、三任住持。曾任中国国民党党务顾问、中央常务委员。现任国际佛光会世界总会会长，南京大学中华文化研究院名誉院长等职。农历七月二十二出生，为临济正宗第四十八代传人。国际著名佛学大师，佛光山开山宗长，国际佛光会世界总会会长，南京大学中华文化研究院名誉院长。
