The Sotheby's catalogue referenced above states that according to Pola Gauguin, the artist's son, this sheet was part of an early sketchbook of thirty-three leaves, executed circa 1884. This drawing will be included in the forthcoming Gauguin Digital Catalogue Raisonné, currently being prepared under the sponsorship of the Wildenstein Plattner Institute, Inc.
