He is a well-known artist living in Fife and he paints the surrounding areas. His vibrant beach scenes (signed Nelson) are enthusiastically collected as are his more conventional paintings which he signs "Allan". A recent example "Harbour, St Monan's" a 60 x 75cm oil on canvas, signed "Allan" was sold in The Scottish Contemporary Art Auction 7th July 2019, lot 665 for £650 (hammer).
