Carl Kahler (Austrian 1856-1906), Sunset Landscape oil on canvas, signed at lower left, presented in a period gilt composition frame. Frame dimensions 24 3/4 x 32 in. Carl Kahler studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and for a few years in Paris. He emigrated to Australia in 1885, where he painted three pictures of the Melbourne Cup. His best known work, My Wife's Lovers, was completed in 1891 after moving to the United States. This painting featured a total of forty-two cats and cemented his success as a cat painter.
