A bronze vesica seal matrix with suspension loop to the reverse; central image of Madonna and infant Jesus with kneeling tonsured figure below; Lombardic legend to the frame 'S' ROB'TIO'BRVSCLERICI' 'The seal of Robert of Brus clerk'. Cf. Bloom, J.H., English Seals, London, 1906, p.158, for similar type.5.93 grams, 29mm (1"). Found while searching with a metal detector in East Yorkshire in 1995; recorded with Hull City Council Museums, Art Galleries and Archives Services in 1995; accompanied by two letters discussing the seal, both from the museums services and both discussing the object and requesting to acquire the seal for display, plus an old faded 'museum' photograph.
