A silver crescent pendant, lunula, with tapering arms and knop finials, filigree scrolled saltire to the centre, ribbed suspension loop with applied pellet below. 4.7 grams, 26mm (1"). Property of a Surrey collector; acquired in the early 1970s. A lunar pendant was worn by girls in ancient Rome as an apotropaic amulet for protection against evil forces. The equivalent pendant for boys was the bulla. [No Reserve]
