23rd-22nd century BC. A substantial agate cylinder seal with scenes of gods fighting; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Black and Green Stone 31 x 18 mm. Three pairs of fighting gods are shown. The one pair are standing and face each other. The next pair show a god on one knee being threatened by a standing god who wields a mace. The other pair show one god being attacked from behind. All six wear horned tiaras, long beards, and only belts as clothing. This is an Akkadian seal, c. 2300-2200 B.C. It is in a less common type and good condition.' 19.8 grams, 31mm (1 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number Y-520; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by an original typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
