2nd millennium BC. A haematite cylinder seal with procession of three deities; accompanied by a museum-quality impression and typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Hematite 24 x 11.5 mm. A group of three standing figures is shown. In the centre is the sun-god Shamash, wearing horned tiara and long robe falling in creases and open at the front, where one leg projects with foot on foot-stool. Facing him on the left is the god with mace, in hat with deep brim and short clothes, holding his mace at the waist. On the right is the Lamma goddess, in horned tiara and long flounced robe with necklace counterpoise hanging down the back. She is holding up both hands. Shamash is identified by his weapon. This is an Old Babylonian seal, c. 1950-1700 B.C. It is nicely engraved and in good condition.' 7.6 grams, 24mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number W-450; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by an original typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
