8th-5th century BC. A white jasper cylinder seal with altar and winged disc, accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of White Marble 21.5 x 9.5 mm. The design consists of the winged disc, a crescent on a pole, a rhomb, a fish, a cross, a quadruped with head turned backwards and a table with covering. The whole design is put between upper and lower rules. This is a seal from Syria, c. 800-500 B.C. It is based on Mesopotamian models but combines them in its own way. This seal is in very good condition.' 3.41 grams, 21mm (1"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number B-4; academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
