A small ceramic pillow-shaped cuneiform tablet with impressed text to both sides, indicating that this tablet is a receipt for barley, accompanied by a handwritten scholarly note, which states: 'O. Ur III Barley Receipt. 37mm x 37mm. Ur III Period. The tablet is dated to the third year of the reign of King Shu-Sin, 2034 BC. This is the archetypal administrative document, sealed by the scribe overseeing the transaction.' 22 grams, 37mm (1 1/2"). Ex central London gallery; acquired on the UK art market in 1998; formerly from an old London collection formed before 1992; believed examined by the late Professor Wilfrid George Lambert FBA (1926-2011), historian, archaeologist, and specialist in Assyriology and Near Eastern archaeology in the late 1980s and early 1990s; and accompanied by a copy of a handwritten and unsigned scholarly note, the original possibly by the late Professor; this lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by AIAD certificate number no. 10326-166497.[No Reserve]
