23rd-22nd century BC. A jasper cylinder seal with lions and bulls, accompanied by a museum-quality impression and a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note issued by W.G. Lambert, Professor of Assyriology at the University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Cylinder Seal of Cream and Pink Stone 34 x 21 mm. A symmetrically arranged contest scene is shown. On the far left and right there is a reared-up lion, and between are two bulls with crossed bodies, also reared-up. A terminal is formed of a star-spade below a lunar crescent with the lions' tails forming part of the design. This is an Akkadian seal, c. 2300-2200 B.C., from Mesopotamia. It is worn, but the design still shows up clearly, since it was deeply cut.' 26 grams, 34mm (1 1/4"). The Signo collection, the property of a West London businessman, formed in the late 1980s-early 1990s; item number 44B (62); academically researched and catalogued by the late Professor Lambert in the early 1990s; accompanied by a copy of a typed and signed scholarly note by Professor Wilfrid George Lambert.
