李自健 老布什夫人與孩童 油畫 1990年5月作 Oil on canvas. Framed. As a special tribute to the then First Lady Barbara Bush for her efforts and dedication in promoting Family literacy, in May of 1990, Pinki Chen, the then owner of Flair for Art Gallery in Mission Road, Alhambra commissioned the talented artist Zi-Jian li to create this oil painting. In this artwork, wearing a beautiful red dress and trademark of white pearl necklace, Mrs. Bush was reading a book with her board smile and motherly love to three children. The two girls are daughters of former City Manager, Kevin Murphy. This painting was first shown and displayed in the Flair for Art Gallery. Since then, it has been kept by Pinki Chen. Barbara Bush (June 8, 1925 – April 17, 2018) was the First Lady of the United States from 1989 to 1993 as the wife of George H. W. Bush, who served as the 41st President of the United States. She was the founder of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She previously was Second Lady of the United States from 1981 to 1989. Among her six children are George W. Bush, the 43rd President of the United States, and Jeb Bush, the 43rd Governor of Florida. As First Lady, Family literacy was Barbara Bush's cause, and she called it the most important issue we have. She became involved with many literacy organizations, served on literacy committees and chaired many reading organizations. Eventually, she helped develop the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. She continued to be dedicated to eliminating the generational cycle of illiteracy in America by supporting programs where parents and their young children are able to learn together. During the early 1980s, after statistics had shown that foreign-born immigrants from Latin America had nearly quintupled just since 1960, statistics showed that 35 million adults could not read above the eighth-grade level and that 23 million were not able to read beyond a fourth-grade level. During her lifetime Mrs. Bush remained active in the foundation and served as honorary chair. 來源: 洛杉磯Flair for Art畫廊,洛杉磯私人收藏
