Description

Robert Cleminson (fl.1864-1903) Spaniels with the day's bag Signed, oil on canvas, together with a companion, 39.5cm by 60cm (2) . Example with the sportsman's basket - In an overall good and original state of preservation. The canvas is somewhat loose on the stretcher and is very slightly buckled in places. Horizontal rub mark along top edge from slip. Small vertical canvas tear/losses within the left wing of game bird next to dog's head which is approx 0.5mm in length and less than 0.5mm across. Some very minor rubbing to other edges. Small patch of flaked paint within the rocks on the right hand side edge in line with the hind legs of the standing dog. There is a further very small area of flaked paint within the area between the recumbent dog and the standing dog. Very small loss/losses within the undergrowth approx 10cm directly above the signature. Light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Second example - The canvas is in a similar state of slightly loose repair (does not have the tare/loss). Some general light rubbing/abrasions to outer edges. There are a relatively few small amount of small/tiny essentially individual losses/flaked paint including just above the mountains on the right hand side, the vegetation within the far foreground and the area between the recumbent dog and the Rabbits. There are a handful of further areas of flaked paint just above the lower edge etc... Relatively light surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Otherwise each in reasonably good and stable condition. Not examined with a UV light.
