Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux, French, 1827-1875, A bronze portrait bust of Victor Thiébaut, third quarter 19th century, depicted wearing a double-breasted coat and cravat, on an integral waisted square-section base, cast signature to right upper arm JB Carpeaux, 19cm high Provenance: An English Private Collection Note: The current lot was commissioned by the illustrious foundry of Thiébaut Frères to present to the founder, Victor Thiébaut (1823-1888) on the occasion of his appointment to Legion of Honor in 1878. To ensure the gift remained a surprise, Carpeaux did not have Thiébaut pose for him. He was familiar with his sitter as the foundry of Thiébaut Frères cast many of his works, including the large group of Ugolin in the Musée d’Orsay. Please refer to department for condition report
