Heaton, Butler and Bayne, British, late 19th Century- Design for a stained glass window, c.1890; watercolour, collage and pen and black ink, bears inscriptions to the reverse, 46x18cm Note: Clement Heaton (1824-82) founded the stained glass firm in 1852 and was joined by James Butler in 1855 and later Robert Turnill Bayne, who became their main designer and a full partner in the firm in 1862. In 1868 Henry Holiday would also join the firm which marked a change in the style of designs looking more towards Classical inspiration. The present design - thought to have been completed towards the end of the 19th century - displays these classical elements, particularly in the architecture surrounding Christ.
