A French sandstone capital, c.1500 style, carved and pierced with grapes and vine leaves, later mounted on a metal stand, 39.5cm high, 31cm wide, 24cm deep Note: A similar style capital carved in alabaster from Amboise castle is in the Mayer van den Bergh Museum in Antwerp (J. De Coo, 1969, no 2253). The same style, imported from Italy as part of the first French Renaissance, can also been seen at Château de Blois in the section built under the reign of Louis XII.
